The Traditional Grilled Cheese Recipe
This one is just like Mom used to make, well, maybe it’s just like Mom used to make. Two slices of bread, two slices of American cheese and some butter are the only ingredients. Simply butter both sides of the bread, put the cheese in between, and grill it in a hot skillet. Cook it until the cheese is melted and the bread is lightly browned. One variation on this is to use two slices of cheese, or add some shredded cheddar for extra tang.
Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Grilled cheese can be dressed up. Here’s a recipe that is sure to impress anyone. Forget just changing out the cheese, you can take this classic sandwich to a whole new level. Beat two eggs in a wide shallow bowl, and then set them aside. In another bowl, combine one and a half cups of grated Romano cheese. Spread the inside of both pieces of bread with goat cheese. Place two tomato slices onto the bread and close the sandwich. Dip the bread into the beaten egg on both sides. Let the excess egg drip off, then place the sandwich in the Romano cheese. Be sure to coat both sides with the egg and cheese. Grill in a nonstick skillet over medium heat for about 3 minutes on each side.
Grilled Cheese of the Gods
This grilled cheese recipe combines bacon and sourdough bread with cheddar cheese for a taste that will have you longing for a second sandwich. One quarter cup of butter and 1 cup of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese are blended and mashed together. Each sandwich is made by placing two slices of bacon and one slice of cheddar cheese between two slices of bread. A little of the butter and cheese mixture is placed in a skillet on medium heat to cook the sandwiches in. Cook each sandwich for about three minutes on each side, adding some of the butter mixture to the pan when the sandwich is flipped.
